There is no single best sauna, because the right cabin depends on whether you want hot air or radiant heat, where it goes and what the electrical allows. What we can rank honestly is the retailers: who prints a price, what that entry price is relative to the others, and which kind of buyer each one suits. That ranking is below, and the criterion is stated rather than implied.
The eight retailers in our index, ranked on printed entry price
The criterion is the lowest price each retailer publishes on its own collection page, read and matched verbatim at ingest with the date traveling with the figure. It is a representative entry price, not a guaranteed minimum, and it says nothing about which cabin is right for you. Nobody paid for a position here.
- The Cold Plunge Store: The lowest printed entry price in our index, and a cold specialist rather than a sauna one. The right first stop if the plunge is the purchase and the sauna is later.
- Sun Home Saunas: Near the bottom of the index on printed entry price and squarely an infrared range, so this is where a first indoor cabin on an ordinary household circuit usually comes from.
- SaunaKits: Sits at the median of the index and is the broadest kit range of the eight, covering outdoor, barrel, infrared and precut room linings, which makes it the best single place to compare formats.
- Select Saunas: Also at the index median, weighted to outdoor and infrared cabins, and one of the two US retailers whose affiliate commission we have read off its own page.
- Superior Saunas: Above the median, and the strongest heater and component range of the eight. Where to go when the heater is the decision rather than the cabin.
- Redwood Outdoors: Upper half of the index on printed entry price, and a back-yard specialist: outdoor cabins, barrels and cold plunge tubs from one place if you want the pair.
- Almost Heaven Saunas: The highest printed entry price in the index and the most established traditional barrel and indoor range, so it is the comparison point rather than the budget option.
Why a ranking of retailers and not of cabins
A cabin that is right for a basement on a standard circuit is wrong for a back yard with a wood stove, so ranking cabins against each other means ranking answers to different questions. Ranking the retailers is answerable: who publishes a price, how their entry prices compare, and what each range is weighted toward. That is what the list above does.
What the criterion is and is not
The order is the lowest price each retailer prints on its own collection page. It is a representative entry price, not the price of any particular cabin you would buy, and configured prices rise quickly once size, heater and glass are chosen. Use it to know where a retailer sits, then compare like for like on the configuration you actually want.
How to narrow it yourself
Decide infrared or traditional first, because that decides the circuit and most of the price. Then decide indoors or out, which decides the base and the weather detailing. Then size it honestly for the number of people who will really use it. Three decisions and the shortlist is usually two or three cabins from two retailers.
Where our money comes from
Some of the retailers above pay us a commission if you buy through a link here, which is disclosed on every page that carries one. The order of this list is set by the printed price criterion above and nothing else, no retailer has paid for a position, and the two retailers whose commission we have actually read sit in the middle of it rather than the top.
Questions people ask about best sauna
Which sauna should I buy?
Decide infrared or traditional first, since it sets the circuit and most of the cost, then indoors or out, then size. The retailer follows from those three, not the other way round.
How is this list ordered?
By the lowest price each retailer prints on its own collection page, read verbatim with the date. It is not ordered by quality, by commission or by anyone's payment.
Is the cheapest entry price the best deal?
Rarely. Entry prices are the smallest cabin in the range, and configured prices converge once you match size, heater and glass.
